The Ritual of Bespoke Tailoring
A well-made suit begins long before the first fitting. It begins with a question: how do you want to feel when you wear it? The answer may be assured, at ease, a little more yourself. Tailoring gives that answer a shape.
Start with the life it will lead
A jacket for frequent travel asks different things of its cloth and construction than one made for an evening celebration. Your working days, the climate, the shoes you reach for and the way you prefer to move all belong in the conversation. Good tailoring makes room for those details.
Choose cloth you want to live in
Cloth is best understood in the hand: its weight, surface and fall. A dry wool has a different presence from a soft flannel; linen brings its own ease and visible creases. Colour matters, but so does the feeling of the fabric against the body and the way it responds to use.

Bespoke and made-to-measure
In bespoke tailoring, an individual pattern is developed for the wearer. Made-to-measure begins with an existing pattern or block, adapted to their measurements and proportions. Both can produce beautiful clothing. The useful question is which method, fitting process and construction suit the piece you have in mind.
The fitting is where you see the difference
A fitting considers more than tightness or length. The collar, shoulder, balance of the jacket and fall of the trouser are observed together, at rest and in movement. Where a basted fitting is part of the selected process, temporary stitches allow the shape to be refined before finishing. Handwork and internal construction vary with the method; they should be explained clearly rather than assumed.

Made to be worn, and kept
Making a garment to order avoids producing that piece before it is wanted. Its longer life still depends on the cloth, construction, care and how often it is worn. A suit earns its place through use: the mornings when dressing feels simple, the occasions it quietly accompanies, the alterations that allow it to remain part of your wardrobe.
At Maison Alltrueist, we create clothing with specialized ateliers, bringing our eye for style, fit and quality to the whole process. We discuss the appropriate method, available fabrics, practical arrangements and price with you before the work begins.
